Now Hear This: How to Cook Roast Beef Stories and Insights From YOU

Results from our first ever Canadian Beef Advisory Panel

Well, the bets were on – and lunch was at stake — would we be able to find 1,000 people to join our new Advisory Panel?? What are we looking for? That is simple- The ABSOLUTE BEST Roast Beef stories from you, the consumer!

When it comes down to finding out what folks think about a recipe or how they shop for or buy beef, we would often just ask friends for input — all 10 of them! Looking for a way to grow our group for gathering insights, we turned to one of the new tools in consumer research – Crowd Sourcing.

Tell us your Roast Beef Stories

We reached out to our Make it Beef Club members and on beefinfo.org, Facebook and Twitter, hoping to get 1,000 folks to sign up (best case scenerio). Skeptics thought we would be lucky to get 100.  But folks were keen and we were surprised that we found 844 enthusiastic panelists signed up. Yippy! So March was our very first survey — all around Roast Beef and Thermometer Use.

HERE’S WHAT WE HEARD ABOUT ROAST BEEF:

  • Folks were hungry for recipes (as always) but also, wanted meal ideas that would make good use of leftover roast beef
  • Knowing How to Buy Roast Beef was seen as tricky as How to Cook Roast Beef – we need to help folks know what roast to buy for what occasion + provide a ‘tenderness scale’
  • Understanding how to get best results with any roast was a biggie
  • Estimating cooking time to coordinate meal prep would be greatly appreciated
  • More people now owned and used a digital thermometer for roasting than they used to — which is great news!
  • Some told us that they struggle with how to get a variety of doneness to please a variety of preferences out of one roast

And we also got some GREAT personal stories about roast beef. Here’s my favourite — we’ve all ‘been there, done that!»:
